Jason Scott Lee the deep ecologist
The actor Jason Scott Lee who can usually be seen bruising it up in the big screen can no be seen in a documentary on his new way of life of existence without exploiting our natural resources. Living Pono is the name of the documentary. Here is a YouTube excerpt of the documentary with him so you can get an idea of how he lives. It’s rather nice, simple and bit attractive. It looks so happy.

To take somehting simple like Pono and complicate it with philosophy would certainly take something from it, but I think it may add even more.
Living Pono can be seen as part of the deep ecology movement, something can be said of the traditional ways of many peoples. Still, the philosophical side of the deep ecology movement needs to be explained.
The concept that humans differ from and are better than the environment has a term: anthropocentrism. This is what Deep Ecology aims to change, and how it differs from, say, conservationalism.
To conserve a resource for example is to admit that that resource should come under the control of man. The concept that nature is subservient dates back to biblical times and can be traced to the development of capitalism and the modern line of thinking about nature and other people as resources.
If we can free ourselves from the chains of centuries of anthropocentric thought, maybe progress can be made towards a world where humanity can cherish the planet and its vast natural wonder without having to assign it a value. It has an intrinsic value of its own.
Could something as simple as a documentary on a humble way of life change the way people think about the world? Probably not, but it’s a start.

You’ve mentioned in your youtube videos that your hawaiian land has deteriorated over the years. Thats sad news. You have deep pride in believing its a chief to live up to. Well, theres much much work to be done on your land and I wish you well. Simple / Nothingness is an interesting subject. 15mph boat follows that lifestyle. Wish you the best for living your lifes dream.

I wanted to ask what material you made the base of your swimming pool? I couldn’t figure out what material that was? One thing I’d suggest is to expand on your theatre for future use. Possibly expand it to three connected buildings. Possibly making a global management learning center as well as a theatre. LA is the worst polluted city in the US. I live in Daytona Beach, the state that has four of the cleanest cities. I could visit Big Island but Hawaiian Inn dinner show is just down the road. And, well, so sad to miss the dirty work. ha ha ha. I noticed your house was partially painted and your balcony. Everyone has you busy doing what they need to get done I suppose. The green will blend in with your terrain. Looking at your living room, you must be in paradise to live that outdoors life. Keep the chief happy.

Have you seen the 2008 SI Swimsuit Edition? Jarah Mariano from Hawaii is doing very well. Hawaiian-Korean and Chinese. May want to work on her art work. If she moves in with Joe, I’ll see if I can visit this June. Yes, I’ll help out with the dirty dirty work.

Another suggestion is to continue working with HILT to preserve the Hawaiian land.

Oh… You don’t exercise. I’m at the gym 530AM M-F. That surprised me that you don’t workout. Have a great time on your taro farm. The closest thing I came to a taro farm was a small apartment filled with fifteen large spider plants using miracle gro to make the plants full and healthy. God they covered everything. Ha Ha. Not very similar. Mangos are plentiful in Florida but expensive. Visit Houston and you can buy 10 per dollar. I suppose I’ll buy a mango lot down in Florida this year.

I see your future. You go into town and meet Whoopi Goldberg. Shes elegant and radiant as Zsa Zsa Gabor. You sweep her off her feet and you live ever after in Green Acres is the place to be… Ever after ever after. And on nights when you can’t get sleep you sing all night long with your high pitch voice.

You’ve been a Marajuana / Cocaine freak. I see now. No. That never made sense to me.

Whats Bette Midler doing with her hawaiian property? All 70 acres cleared away. I think you have a talk with her. Joan Rivers will put her away in her lavish basement.

70 acres completely destroyed by BETTE MIDLER.
Its time to bring justice to Bette Midler. The Omen group will meet tonight and visit her at 2 AM tomorrow. Carrying firelit torches we’ll come to her property. The once called Native Puritan Hawaiian land is completely wrecked by these individuals. She’ll have to buy Charlton Hestons backyard fountain from his estate to make a nice lounge for herself.
ok. give Bette the James Michener “Hawaii” book. Tell her the first chapter is very important. Vivid account how birds try to lay their droppings several times making many attempts to grow the first plant which years later became Hawaii.
We’ll just make the 70 acres an extension to our farm.

James Michener wrote many books discussing ecology among many subjects. His books go way beyond the immediate world of the subject constantly writing about the external worldly influences as well as how the subject makes dramatic personal and universal changes. Sometimes he seemed to be too much about the subject matter when it seemed to go way out into left field and trivia. On the other hand, Michener went all over the world to gather data to write his books. quite good.
